Health care organizations face an imperative to deliver high quality care as efficiently as possible while also providing empathetic service to the patient. Simultaneously achieving these goals requires on-going efforts to improve performance on one or more dimensions. Furthermore, technology, knowledge, and public policy continually evolve, making it challenging for organizations to keep their processes current. For these reasons, health care organizations are forced to spend significant financial resources and human capital on improvement efforts if they are to remain on the performance frontier.
