Off-loading neuropathic plantar heel ulcers with a metal stirrup brace: case report.

摘要

The incidence of diabetic neuropathic foot ulcers is increasing and continues to be the leading cause of hospital-ization for diabetic patients. Most of these ulcers are caused by excessive pressure to an area of the foot incapable of withstanding the forces. Approximately 80% of nontraumatic lower-limb amputations are preceded by foot ulceration. Therefore, prevention of a primary or recurrent ulcer is the paramount goal in treatment, and this often is achieved by off-loading the involved area.
