摘要

A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method which does not involve DNA purification was utilized to analyse 94 samples (serum or cerebrospinal fluid) from a hospital in South Bohemia, Czech Republic. 11% of cases were positive for B. burgdorferi sensu lato, 15% of cases were positive for B. garinii, and 43% were positive for B. afzelii. Co-infection was confirmed in 24% of samples. It is concluded that the new PCR technique can be the basis of laboratory tests for the routine detection of spirochaete diseases.
