Phytoplasma and phytoplasma diseases: vectors, control, and research topics.

摘要

The life cycle of phytoplasma vectors, i.e. Scaphoideus titanus, Euscelis plebeja, and Hyalesthes obsoletus, and its effects on the transmission of phytoplasma to host crops are briefly discussed. The infection of host crops by phytoplasma is described. The control of phytoplasma by quarantine and cultural methods (mainly pruning of infected parts and sanitation) is presented. Future research topics, which include the improvement of crop resistance to phytoplasma and its vectors, are mentioned.
