Shintech still expanding despite troubled state of PVC industry

Despite the travails of the PVC industry, Shintech continues with its expansion, albeit at a slower pace. Meanwhile Georgia Gulf reported a loss in Q2 and traded half of its debt for equity; while Westlake lost money on its vinyls business. The non-public companies cannot have done much better. Domestic consumption is estimated down 17%.Thus PVC continues to be a troubled industry (see C2+Sep08).
