Fertilization value of papilionaceous plants in the cultivation of white cabbage and onion. II. Selected elements of nutritive value

The effect of green manures with papilionaceous plants on the dry matter, sugars, and vitamin C content of white cabbage and onion was examined. The effect of green manures was compared with farmyard manure in a dose of 25 t ha~(-1). The cabbage cultivated after vetch catch crop contained the greatest quantity of total sugars. The onion grown after farmyard manure and a mixture of vetch and field pea contained the greatest amount of dry matter whereas the cultivation of this vegetable after ploughing-down of the mixture of vetch and field pea also yielded the greatest amount of vitamin C.
