CAD is undergoing a revolution, and it's called intelligent objects. Until recently, CAD has meant computer-aided drafting-electronic drawing with vectors or lines. Now it's evolving into true computer-aided design. This means that you no longer design with circles, lines, and arcs. Instead, you place intelligent components into your drawings, and they behave like real-world elements--windows interact with walls, roofs adjust to wail height changes, and so on. Many programs are starting to use these concepts, but to be effective, objects must be modifiable over a wide range of parameters.
