Renovation Raises the Bar: An ambitious expansion plan paved the way for this lifecare community to significantly raise the bar in terms of the foodservices it offers residents

An ambitious expansion plan targeting younger retirees provided a good opportunity to update dining services at Collington, a Mitchelville, MD, lifecare community about 20 minutes from Annapolis. Collington, launched in 1988 by the Washington, DC, Espiscopal Archdiocese, started with the goal of providing about 400 residents, minimum age 65, with a place to grow old and have their needs accommodated throughout the aging process. Today, about 360 residents occupy the independent living apartments, which consist of attached, two-bedroom cottages and efficiencies, and another 75 fill the health center on the 128-acre tree-lined campus. The latter group includes assisted living and cognitively impaired residents along with residents of an on-campus skilled nursing facility.
