EU health commissioner-designate takes neutral line on biotech

John Dalli, European commissioner-designate for health and consumer policy, has offered a noncommittal response to the European Parliament regarding his views on biotech crops and animal cloning. However, he has signaled support for Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso's idea of allowing member-states to decide at the national level whether or not to grow genetically-engineered crops (see FCN Nov. 2, Page 6).
