Second Italian aspartame study to be unveiled this week

A second study claiming to confirm the carcinogenicity of the artificial sweetener aspartame is scheduled to be presented this week at Mount Sinai Medical School in New York City (see FCNMarch 12, Page 22). Morando Soffritti, director of the European Ramazzini Foundation, will present the new findings, which follow an earlier study completed in 2005. The foundation says the results of the second study confirm the results of the first - that aspartame is a carcinogen inducing various types of malignant tumors in rats at doses currently considered acceptable for humans.
