An overview of US national food spending in 1997 is presented. Food spending increased by 3.9% in 1997 to dollar 714 900 million. Once adjusted for inflation food spending at home increased by more than food spending away from home. The rise in personal food expenditures was lower than the increase in disposable personal income.
