摘要

To examine Victorian food processors' beliefs and barriers with regard to the production, distribution and promotion of plant foods and plant-based food products, a questionnaire was mailed to 200 food processing businesses, with 48 completed questionnaires returned. Difficulties of strongest concern to 79% of participants were drought/lack of water, to 33% lack of domestic demand/market saturation, and to 29% lack of supportive legislation for the plant food industry. Most participants (77%) represented businesses directly involved with promotion of plant-based products, particularly via advertising. Lack of money and other resources to conduct market research and for promotion were of strong concern to 38% and 33% of participants respectively. In order to increase consumption of plant foods, it is important to address these barriers. For example, government support for a national campaign on plant foods and plant-based foods may increase demand for such products among Australian consumers..
