FSIS calls meeting to discuss new E. coli sampling, testing requirements

The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service is paying a lot of attention to E. coli 0157:H7 these days, with a notice directing inspectors to take more samples from ground beef or trim to detect the bacteria and an upcoming meeting to discuss exactly how much testing is needed. FSIS announced a meeting for Oct. 14 and 15 at an as yet undetermined location in Washington, D.C., to discuss sampling procedures, and FSIS Notice 63-08, issued on Sept. 22, serves as a kind of discussionstarter for inspectors and industry representatives alike.
