An FDA official and a Senate aide traded friendly barbs at a conference late last month over who should be promoting legislation to implement the administration's much-touted Food Protection Plan. Speaking at a Food & Drug Law Institute-sponsored conference on Jan. 24, FDAAssistant Commissioner for Food Protection DavidAcheson said he's surprised more people on Capitol Hill are not "stepping up to the plate" and asking FDA what resources are needed to address food safety outbreaks. Acheson appeared on a panel that explored the prospects for food safety legislation in the coming year.
