USDA and HHS appoint 20 I 0 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee

USDA and the Health and Human Services Department have announced the appointment of 13 nationally recognized experts to serve on the 2010 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. Selected for their expertise in dietary intake, human metabolism, behavioral change, and health, panel members will advise the departments on any nutritional and dietary changes necessary to the Dietary Guidelines, which were last revised in 2005 (See related article, Page 27). "While the Dietary Guidelines are designed for a healthy population, they become increasingly important as we aim to reduce the burden of disease and death related to public health problems such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other chronic illnesses," comments HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt.
