DeLauro introduces bill to create new Food Safety Administration

Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, made good on her promise to deliver a bill that would split the FDA in two, creating a separate Food Safety Administration (see FCN Sept. 22, Page 11). The Food Safety Modernization Act (HR 7143) was introduced Sept. 26 - just days before Congress could vote to approve its financial bailout measure and escape Washington, D.C., though lawmakers may be called back after the election.
