A biteamong he bloom: Stems' new cafe tantalizes taste buds while offering a visual oasis of fresh flowers, plants and distinctive giftware
Stephanie LaPrairie, aifd, knew she would not have to worry about getting flower orders when she purchased the phone numbers of one of Western Canada's largest florists and opened Stems in her home-town of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada (population 92,000), in 2007. But last fall, she moved the business to a new location and added a cafe, and it quickly became a destination for lunch as well. Now known as Stems Flowers & Cafe, the nearly 2,000-square-foot space is located directly across from a regional hospital, on the main floor of a three-story medical professional center, and offers an inviting spot for visitors to enjoy a variety of delectable delights, including homemade soups, paninis, cakes, muffins and coffee.
