AFFORDABLE PRICES OF IRON ORE

By using our information on steel production costs it is possible to assess the prices that steelmakers can pay for iron ore at different levels of prices for steel products. This provides a guide to the level of spot prices that may be sustainable on a delivered basis at any point in time. The analysis is based on the costs of production at a low-cost steel plant on the coast in China under conditions of 2011 Q3.
