CTIF has developed an inclusion content rating method specific to cast steel products. This method was established following analysis, both morphological (nature, shape) and quantitative (size, number), of the endogenous inclusions present in cast steels, It is applied by simple comparison with the standard diagrams prepared in the Context of the study. The validation tests performed in foundry laboratories to evaluate its repeatability and reproducibility have given satisfactory results. The objective of the method is to give the profess/on a practical tool with which to evaluate the metallurgical quality of products with respect to contractual requirements. The method will be published at the beginning of 2004 in the form of a BNIF recommendation.
