The threat of an oil spill always looms large for oil and gas companies operating in Canada. The country's abundance of lakes and rivers, especially in oil-rich north eastern B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan, may be a blessing for tourism but they create a serious hazard for oil and gas-laden pipelines, trucks, and trains criss-crossing bodies of inland water.
