For carton converters, adhesive (or glue) is often not appreciated until there is a problem. Although adhesive is typically less than 1 percent of the cost of a carton, gluing issues can be expensive. Gluing problems during production can require reruns as well as shutdowns for cleanups, both of which incur labor costs and lost time. In addition, misapplied adhesive can cause cartons to become stuck in the side flap or window area. Some customers will reject an entire truckload of cartons if they find just one or two that are stuck. A good application with a bad adhesive — or the wrong adhesive — will yield a poor result. And a good adhesive applied improperly will be just as problematic.
