The LR2 rate jumped Friday on the benchmark Persian Gulf-Japan route with an owner taking a tanker from the spot market at Worldscale 85. "Ships are disappearing. We need the LRls to continue showing activity, so if people take an LR2s, they will have to pay up," an owner said. The LR2 rate spiked after Torm LR2 Pool placed the Millennium Explorer on subjects to move a 75,000KT cargo for a Persian Gulf-Japan voyage, loading July 24-25 at W85. The key PG-Japan route on LR2s was assessed at W85, up 4 points from Thursday.
