The paper presents the results of labora-tory model tests and theoretical analysis on thebehavior of a strip footing supported on sheet pilewall-stabilized sandy slope and loaded vertically tofailure. The parameters varied in the study include theheight, stiffness and location of the sheet pile wall, thelocation of, the footing relative to the slope crest andthe relative density of sand. Two-dimensional planestrain finite element analyses was used to analyze aprototype strip footing on sandy slope with sameconditions. The results indicate that the inclusion ofsheet pile wall has significant effect in improving theresponse of the strip footing and the slope itself. Thetheoretical results confirm the experimental results ofthe model footing tests and show reasonable agree-ment. Based on the numerical and experimentalresults, critical values of the sheet pile wall param-eters for maximum stabilizing effect are established.
