The development of new,more effective,and environmentally friendly flame re-tardant strategies for styrenics is of increasing urgency as the criticism of the use of organohalogens,primarily brominated aro-matics,becomes more prominent around the world.Flame retarding species that can be chemically incorporated into the polymer are particularly attractive since volatility,blooming,and loss during processing are not issues of limitation for the use of the retardant.
