摘要

A profile is presented of floriculture in Nepal. Growth of the industry is discussed, noting that there are about 110 floriculture enterprises that employ about 110 skilled and 400 semi-skilled and unskilled workers. Domestic demand is increasing. The industry is primarily composed of small (less than 1 ha) nurseries producing a variety of potted and cut flower crops. Constraints to growth are noted; these include poor transportation, lack of inputs and lack of specialization. It is suggested thatprospects for development of the industry depend on greater production specialization, obtaining reliable supplies of fertilizers and pesticides or identifying local alternatives, and identifying consumer preferences. Production, sales and marketing of several typical floriculture operations are described.
