Engineered Floors bucks trends, keeps growing

When the recession drove the overall carpet industry down about 40 percent, the idea of building new plants seemed the stuff of fantasies. But Bob Shaw, former top executive of Shaw Industries and now founder, chairman and CEO of Engineered Floors, LLC, had other plans. Starting in 2009, Engineered Floors has been on a winning streak as a producer of PureColor solution dyed polyester (PET) fiber and manufacturer of PET carpet for the residential replacement and multi-family housing markets. From its first plant in Calhoun, Engineered Floors has succeeded by investing in the most modern technologies and putting all processes under one roof - from extrusion to tufting and finishing. In 2011, the acquisition of Dream Weaver, added a specialty retail division.
