One of Mother Nature's greatest gifts

I was fortunate enough to see the inside story of one of Mother Nature's greatest products: Cork. Some 15 years ago, Floor Covering Weekly was the first industry publication to regularly talk about and promote cork flooring, which was a direct result of my first trip to Portugal and more directly, to Amorim Revestimentos, S.A., the world's largest cork manufacturer. This last trip had an even more profound impact.The Amorim family still runs the company — now headed by Antonio Rios de Amorim — and is in its fifth generation. The stately Founders home stands as a tribute to the couple who started it all, as a meeting house for guests and it even includes a cork museum.
