Canadian carpet mills evolve to meet challenges

Whether it's partnering with U.S. companies, distributing hard surface flooring or offering unique carpet products, carpet mills in Canada have found ways to survive and prosper. Part of the international family of Beaulieu companies founded in Belgium by Roger De Clerk in 1959, Beaulieu Canada employs about 600 people at two manufacturing plants and processes its products through two distribution centers. Since 1981, when its first plant in Stratford, Ontario began manufacturing polypropylene fiber and area rugs, Beaulieu Canada has grown to include three divisions - residential, commercial and rugs, according to Sophie Tanya Lupien, vice president of marketing for the Residential Division.
