The paper explains briefly the effect of the ionosphere on the operation of GNSS in terms of the rangedelay introduced by the presence of the ionization, when the satellite signals are used to calculate theposition of a user that receives the signals. A description of the two ionospheric models used, by theGPS and in future GALILEO to correct such delay is given A comparison of the results obtained bythe two operational models is provided.
