SA handline squid fishery recovers: - after 'worst season'

Good late-season catches of chokka (the squid Loligo vulgaris reynaudii) taken by handline off the east coast of South Africa have partially made up for what many believe has been the worst season on record. Good catches have been made between East London and Agulhas, the centre of the South African squid fishery. Then, high prices and the weakness of the South African rand against other major currencies improved the fortunes of squid fishermen who had previously reported some of the lowestever squid catches.
