At Domotex Asia, 80 percent of the nearly 1,000 exhibitors were Chinese wood floor suppliers, and they arrived with a unified message of booming sales, increasing raw materials costs and shifting product mixes. While three days is hardly enough time to penetrate the depth of a nation's market, here's a quick snapshot: China's real advantage is not found in labor - which is easily offset by U.S. and European efficiencies - it's in raw materials, which are often subsidized by the government. "Wood is subsidized by the government and it employs thousands of people everywhere in China - they sponsor it," said Paul De Cock, president, Unilin North America.
