The effects of crude oil, titanium dioxide (TiO_2), China and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) on the coatings market were the main topics at The Coatings Summit in Miami, FL, US, in Jan 2015. The CEO of US-based Axalta Coatings Systems, the former performance coatings unit of DuPont, said that cheaper oil could increase paint demand in the long term from the refinishing industry and from the auto original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) segment. The refinishing sector is benefitting as motorists are encouraged to drive longer distances because of the lower crude oil prices.
