The ceramics and paper industries are major consumers of white mineral pigments in Italy.The country accounted for about 15% of Europe's production of sanitaryware in 2006 and for 9% of Europe's paper and board production.Although Italy's production of ceramic tiles has decreased slightly in recent years,it is still one of the world's top four producing countries.The Maffei group dominates Italian production of quartz for the ceramics sector,with five plants producing 230,000 tonnes/y.Maffei is also strong in feldspar production;so too is Gruppo Minerali.
