The 2015 Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) Phase I Release 1 Awards have been released by the US Department of Energy (DOE). The selected projects are parallel to DOE's goal of cutting costs of hydrogen production to less than $4/gal of gasoline equivalent, lowering fuel cell unit cost to $40 kW, and enhancing the durability of automotive fuel cell systems to 5000 hr by 2020. A non-precious metal catalyst will be developed by pH Matter LLC of Columbus, OH, based on phosphorus-doped carbon-nitrogen compounds, while Proton OnSite of Wallingford, CT, will use doped cobalt oxides to develop a non-precious metal catalyst.
