Total Petrochemicals, IFP Energies Nouvelles (IFPEN) and its subsidiary, Axens, have entered into a partnership for a new technology that allows the production of ethylene through dehydration of ethanol. The new technology will enable the manufacture of bio-ethylene from renewable resources with reduced energy usage and carbon dioxide emissions as compared to conventional ethylene. Dow Chemical intends to expand its ethylene and propylene production in the USA as well as consolidate its US operations based on feedstock opportunitiesresulting from growing supplies of shale gas in the Eagle Ford and Marcellus share regions.
