Ineos must pay 192 M to inventor of process for making carbon black feedstock from phenol plant wastes

Last October, a jury in the Mobile District Court (Alabama) agreed on a verdict in favour of Dr Sven Peter Mannsfield (a retired chemist, aged 72) against Ineos Phenol (formerly Phenolchemie). Dr Mannsfield had filed a lawsuit against the company alleging misappropriation of patent rights (and presumably of patent royalties) for a process he had invented for converting a by-product from phenol manufacture into a suitable carbon black feedstock. The Court determined that Ineos must pay Dr Mannsfield 192 M in compensatory damages.
