Kulim bullish about soap plant,raises output

Kulim(M)Bhd is confident of recovering the Ringgit 17.8 M investment in its newly set up 70,000 tonnes/y soap noodle plant located in Pasir Gudang industrial estate within three years from 2003 due to rising global demand for palm oil byproducts.The plant started commercial production in May 2003(see Focus on Surfactants,May 2003, p 3).Presently,the plant (operated by subsidiary Natural Oleochemicals Sdn Bhd)produces 35,000 tonnes/y of translucent soap noodles,the main ingredient used in making beauty and shower soaps,and has contracted the sale of the first few months of production at higher than expected prices.
