Stepan reports record earnings for 4Q and full year 2009

Stepan Co reported record earnings for the fourth quarter and full year ended 31 Dec 2009. Net income rose 70% to $63.0 M for the year ($37.2 M in 2008) and increased to $8.8 M for 4Q 2009 ($1.7 M in 4Q 2008), both record figures. The record income is the result of improvement in all three business segments, attributable to lower commodity raw material costs, successful cost control initiatives and a desirable surfactant product mix of laundry and personal care products that performed well during the economic downturn, the company reports.
