Stepan reports higher 2Q and 1H 2007 sales and earnings

Stepan Co reported results for 2Q and 1H ended Jun 2007. Net income for 2Q 2007 was 4.7 M, a 54% increase from net income of 3.1 M in 2Q 2006, on sales up 15% to 336.2 M. 9% higher volumes, higher selling prices and the positive impact of foreign exchange all contributed to the sales growth. Net income for 1H 2007 was 10.4 M, up 70% (net income of 6.1 M in 1H 2006), while sales were up 12% to 649.2 M. An 8% surfactant sales volume improvement led to a 2.8 M (13%) improvement in surfactant gross profit, excluding the gain from the speciality ester product line sale [Focus on Surfactants, Jun 2007].
