Out of Court settlements amount to $163.5 M in US TiO2 price-fixing cartel case

All four of the TiO2 pigment suppliers indicted for operating a US price-fixing cartel - DuPont, Millennium (part of the Cristal group), Huntsman and Kronos - have now decided to make out-of-Court settlements so as to avoid the cost and potential management distraction that would be entailed in going through with a formal Court hearing. Nevertheless, none of them has actually admitted that a price-fixing cartel exists or has ever existed. Tronox, which is also a major supplier to the US market, was never named as a defendant in this case and, as it pointed out in a press release dated 14 January 2013, no damages are being sought from Tronox.
