Lyondell develops technology for direct oxidation of propylene

Lyondell has announced plans to build a pilot unit in Newton Square, PA, to develop an oxidation process for turning propylene, hydrogen, and oxygen into propylene oxide,using oxygen (instead of hydrogen peroxie) as the oxidant. Current technologies generate styrene or t-butyl alcohol as by-products but Lyondell's process does not and therefore has major economic advantages.
