An Overview of ISO 14000 Environmental Management System Standards

Over the years environment concerns have increased. Public interest litigatios coupled with judicial activism has put the businesses in a tight spot. Driven against the wall,businesses have started recognising their environmental responsibilities. ISO 14000 set of standards or what are known as Environmental Management System standards help the organisations to effectively tackle their environmental responsibilities.Dealing with the scope and limitationof ISO 14001,this article discusses the broad requirement of ISO 14001. Futher the steps involved in the process of certification namely the pre-assessment and three phase assessment have also been covered.
