IGC forecasts near-record 2016-17 grains output

The International Grains Council (IGC) predicts that grains production in 2016-17 will be the second largest on record at 2.03bn t. It revised its forecast up by 10mn t from last month following good rains in Europe, the FSU and north America. Maize production forecasts are steady at 1bn t for 2016-17. This year's production is estimated at 969mn t. This season's output is expected to be the nadir, with production increasing next year.
