摘要

The reduction of production cost is top most concern for urea manufacturrer becasue of the various uncertainties inpricing plicies and subsidy policy change.The price of ammonia as a raw materialis a major factor for production cost of urea.However,the ammonia consumption figure per tonne of urea is in order in latest urea plants.Therefore,saving in the utilities consumption is the only way to reduce the production cost of urea.KRIBHCO in its endeavour towards energy conservation and modernization has kept itself abreast of product quality development and maintained pace with technological upgradation and excellence inplant operation.CO_2 compressor plays a vital role inurea manufacturing process due to high power consumption.Efforts towards improving its efficiency and reliability is a major challenge for the designer.Considerable improvement inenergy efficiency of this equipment can be achieved by installing state-of-art 3-D impeller.This technology has been implemented first time in India in CO_2 compressor of urea plant as an energy efficient device for revamping.This paper describes the background,problems and performance evaluation of CO_2 compressor to identify the potentialfor improving the energy efficiency in one of the urea unit at KRIBHCO-Hazira.
