CAN firm for March, Urea prices fall, DAP prices up

While deliveries of CAN are running perhaps 10% behind last year's levels, the sharp rise in Urea and other N shipments more than made up for this shortage, and overall N deliveries are up 12% on the same period in the previous season. CAN: Yara raised its price for CAN by ?20 pt on 17 Feb to ?291 pt cif inland in the north, and ?295 pt cif inland for the south. OCI followed suit raising it's price to ?290 pt cif inland for March deliveries to N. Germany. Yara's CAN price increases will only take effect on the ground for second half April shipments. In early March, Eurochem sold 7kt of CAN to Germany and Benelux at $325-330 pt fob vsl bulk. A small 3,000t cargo of Greek granular CAN is reported to have discharged at Pappenburg, which is offered ?275-280 pt fot bulk. Transammonia has imported nearly 14kt of Gemlik prilled CAN at Bremen, of which a fair portion is said to be available at ?270-275 pt fot bulk. There is Hungarian CAN offered for May-July loading at ?285 pt fot bulk, which is regarded as expensive, especially this late in the season. Polish CAN is indicated at ?285 pt fot bulk Szczecin. There is a wide range of prices ?260-310 pt at retail level, as some retailers average out cheap tonnage from early in the season with today's high prices, while others price it basis the latest March levels.
