Being an environmentally friendly gardener might mean confronting some unfortunate realities. I'M NO ORGANIC-GARDENING NAYSAYER, but it seems to me that all of this back-to-nature stuff has gotten just a little out of hand. At the local garden center,it's almost impossible to pass a display that doesn't tout some product or another as "natural," "safe for the environment," or, best of all, "organic." But are these products really as safe for the environment as advertised? Can we put our brain on hold when we purchase them, comforted in the notion that the natural choices are always the best? Don't bet on it.
