All India Production,Despatch,Sale and Stock of Single Superphosphate (SSP) during 2005-06-A Review

The production and consumption of SSP witnessed negative growth during nineties and the present decade.During 2005-06,the production of SSP recorded an increase of 12%,after a negative growth witnessed in the previous year.The discrimination of SSP,with regard to the fixation of selling price and concession,affected the stability of growth in the production and despatches of SSP during the past and current decade.The despatches of SSP moved upward when the rate of concession was enhanced and went down when the rate of concession was reduced.In the recent past,the enhancement in the rate of concession to Rs.9 75 per tonne w.e.f 1~(st) September '05,from Rs 650 per tonne earlier had a positive impact on the growth in the production and despatches of SSP during 2005-06.Despite uneven growth experienced in the past one and half decades,India still ranks third in the global consumption of SSP,next to China and Brazil.The paper presents a detailed review of the development in capacity,production,despatch,sale and stock of SSP during 2005-06.
