LORD MAYOR WELCOMES TRAINING GRANTS for small metals companies in South Yorkshire

The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor David Baker, has welcomed a new initiative offering training grants to metals companies based in South Yorkshire. 40 per cent of net training costs up to a maximum of 800 pounds is now up for grabs to boost the confidence of employers to invest in the training and development of their employees. Metals Industry Skills & Performance (MetSkill) and the Engineering Employers' Federation (EEF) have joined forces to provide practical help to companies become more competitive by improving the skills and performance of their workforce. The new partnership has been forged to administer training grants funded by the South Yorkshire Learning & Skills Council and to offer companies free, impartial support and advice on skills and training. The aim is to both increase the quantity and improve the quality of training carried out in workplaces across the region, by creating a more demand-led training system, where employers have more purchasing power and training suppliers are more responsive to employer needs.
