The present-day mining industry is facing challenges which require the creation of modern underground it systems. In comparison to the systems used before, the new class of IT solutions shouid be characterised by an open structure, scalability and the ability to process far greater quantities of information. This article focuses on the idea devised by Polskie CentrumTechniki Gorniczej (The Polish Mining Technology Centre), a Famur Group company, concerning the comprehensive management of the coal mining process from the face end to the surface. The first part of the article-deais with the "e-kopalnia" (e-mine) system, a pioneering solution that combines mining mechanisation systems with the data collection, transmission, analysis and visualisation system. The second part contains a detailed description of "Famac Vibro", one of the elements constituting e-kopalnia.
