Recent and future developments in drilling technology for the coal mining industry

In spite of the decline in demand from the European coal industry, Deilmann-Haniel GmbH have continued to pursue a programme of on-going development and have in recent years brought out a range of new products for drilling and rockbolting operations. Atlas Cop-co MCT GmbH have at the same time developed a new compact rockdrill machine with a high-performance specification. The two companies have decided to collaborate on a joint development venture to produce a new drilling machine with a range of accessories for the coal mining industry. This paper reviews previous developments in the field of drilling and rockbolting and presents the potential applications of this type of equipment, as well as outlining future development objectives.
